There is a kind of emptiness that does not feel like loneliness. It feels like power.
People are scared to lose their belongings. Their house, their status, their relationships, their story about who they are. All of this is maya. And maya survives on fear, the fear that if you lose it, you will be nothing.

But what if you become nothing? What if you have nothing left to lose?

Then you become free.

The power of having nothing to lose

When you have something to protect, you are always negotiating. With people, with God, with fate. Please don’t take this away. Please let this stay.

When you have nothing to lose, the negotiation ends. You stop begging. You start seeing. That is the beginning of finding him.

Awakening feels like a burning pyre in the smashan

No one tells you that awakening is not soft light and flowers at first. It feels like burning.

Like you are sitting in a smashan watching your own identities burn. The pyre does not stop. And you cannot get up and leave, because you are both the body burning and the one watching.

This is smashan vairagya. The detachment that comes not from philosophy but from seeing everything you held as temporary go up in flames. It is terrifying to the ego. It is liberating to the soul. This is where Shiva lives, because only he can sit calmly in a place where everything ends.

The continuous damru in the heart

After the burning, in the silence, you start to hear something else. Not silence. A sound.

A continuous damru inside the heart. The throb of creation and dissolution happening together. Spanda. It was always there, but it was hidden under the noise of maya, under the notifications and desires and plans.

In the emptiness, you finally hear it. And you realize the universe was never silent. You were just too full to listen.

Ketu in the 12th house, the planet that takes to give

In Vedic astrology, Ketu is the headless one. He has no eyes for the future of this world. He does not want. He only cuts. He cuts attachment, he cuts illusion.

The 12th house is the last house. Vyaya bhava. Loss, sleep, dreams, foreign lands, isolation, the hospital, the ashram, the end of the bed. It is the house of endings, where the soul prepares to leave this body and merge.

When Ketu sits in the 12th, he does not give you detachment as an idea. He gives you the experience of it. Things leave. Money flows out. People drift. You feel isolated even in a crowd, or you are literally taken far from home. Sleep breaks. Dreams become vivid, prophetic.

People call it loss. But Ketu is not punishing you. He is emptying the vessel. Because this house is not meant to be filled. It is meant to be dissolved.

Ketu in 12th is one of the classic combinations for moksha. Not because it makes you holy, but because it leaves you with nowhere else to go except inward.

Moksha without a gotra

In our tradition, gotra is everything. It is your lineage. It is the rishi you descend from, the debt you carry, the identity you chant during every puja. It tells the world who you belong to.

To be without a gotra is to belong to no one in this world.

And that is the final freedom.

In Kashi, when someone dies with no family, with no gotra to claim them, the priests write “Shiva gotra.” Those who belong to no one, belong to Shiva.

This is what happens when all is gone. When your gotra, your name, your belongings pertaining to maya are taken, you are not left abandoned. You are left claimed. By him alone.

Without gotra, there is no more pitra rina, no more need to prove your lineage. You are not a son of this rishi or that family. You are directly his. That is moksha. Not going somewhere new, but realizing you never belonged to the old places anyway.

When all is gone, only Shiva remains. And he was the only one who was ever there.

If you are in this emptiness right now, do not rush to fill it. Let it be empty. Let it be the clean, burnt ground where something true can finally grow.
