For years, Tantra has been reduced to two things in pop culture – dark rituals and secret sex rites.
Both are distortions. That is less than 1% of Tantra, and the part our own shastras condemn as kshudra-prayoga (misuse).
The word comes from tanoti – to expand, and trayati – to liberate. An instrument for expansion of mind and liberation of energy.
Tantra is the Agama Shastra of Sanatana Dharma. Almost everything we do in a daily puja today is Tantric:
Mantra, Yantra, Pran-pratishtha, Mudra, Nyasa, Chakra & Kundalini vidya.
Philosophies like Kashmir Shaivism, Sri Vidya, Shaiva Siddhanta are all Tantric lineages.
The core idea: Don’t reject the world to find the Divine. Use the world itself – your body, breath, sound, form – as the instrument to realize the Divine.
Black magic is the misuse of Tantra.
Sex is a tiny, symbolic part of one left-hand path.
Tantra itself is the technology to free you, not to scare you.
It’s time we reclaim the word.
