We have been taught to fear the word ‘Rin’.
Rin means debt. Liability. Something you have to repay, something that weighs you down.
But what if we’ve been reading it wrong all our lives?
In our Sanskriti, Rin was never meant to be a burden. It was meant to be a Bandhan that gives you Gati.
Debt pulls you back. Bandhan pushes you forward.
Debt says — “You owe me, so you are smaller.”
Gati Bandhan says — “You are connected to me, so you can move further.”
Think about it.
1. Pitra Rin is not a loan from your parents.
Your parents didn’t give you life on EMI. That connection is the reason you know how to walk, speak, stand up after falling. It’s not a debt to be cleared, it’s the first velocity that put you in motion.
If you treat it as debt, you will feel guilt. If you treat it as Gati Bandhan, you will feel gratitude — and gratitude always moves you forward.
2. Guru Rin is not fees.
A teacher doesn’t just give information. He gives direction. The true Guru doesn’t bind you to himself, he gives you the gati to go beyond him.
You can never “repay” a true Guru. You can only carry his learning forward.
3. Prakriti Rin is not something we borrowed.
The air, water, food, this earth of Roha — we didn’t take it as a loan from nature. We are woven into it. It’s a living Bandhan. When we forget this and treat it as debt, we try to exploit and repay. When we remember it as Bandhan, we protect and flow with it.
This is why our Rishis called them Rina-Traya — Deva Rin, Rishi Rin, Pitra Rin. They never said “pay it and be free.” They said “remember it and be in motion.”
Debt ends when you pay. Gati Bandhan lives as long as you move.
So how do you honor a Gati Bandhan?
You don’t repay it with anxiety. You honor it with three things:
1. Smriti: Remember who gave you speed. Daily, not just once.
2. Samman: Don’t carry it as guilt on your head. Carry it as strength in your heart.
3. Gati: Let that connection make you do something. Let your parents’ Rin make you kinder. Let your Guru’s Rin make you wiser. Let Prakriti’s Rin make you more conscious.
Stop trying to become “Rin-mukt” by running away.
Become “Rin-yukt” by moving beautifully because of it.
Because some bonds were never meant to tie you down.
They were meant to give you wings.
