Shiva as the nada Brahman is the lord of sound too. He is the lord of “sangeet” the rhythm of the heart beat. In the beginning when there was no light, there was only sound which was in the form of pulse, a vibration, and as breathe…all real vibrations and that sound was Shiva himself the rhythm of the heart and the song that the breathe played was shiva himself. Hence one of the Vedas call Shiva the Nada Brahman, the absolute as sound. From his Damru, the maheshwara sutras emerged, 14 mystical syllables that became the foundation of language, mantras and cosmic rhythm..each was a breathe of creation. He is not just Rudra Veena who holds it but one who resides in every string, every raga is him. Nada Aradhana is “worship of sound” the silence between two notes, the space where he lives, the space between the inhalation and exhalation where you connect. From chanting Aum to the sound of your heartbeat, every rhythm of the cosmos is him, every Vibration is his language. We don’t always reach him in silence, sometimes we reach him through unfiltered sound of the cry, the raga or the mantra. Shiva is not just silence, he is the sound that leads you into silence. He is Naada, he is Brahman.
