Polytheism vs Monotheism
Non-Sanatanis often mock us Sanatanis for the fact that we worship many Gods. Many of these are human, human-like, animals, fish, birds, as well as natural elements like water, air, fire, earth and skies. We also worship the nine planets; in fact, we worship the entire universe including the Sun as Surya Devta.
One basic reason why they can’t understand our multiple Gods is that almost all of the other religions are based on the teachings of one person. The religions that have come from the Middle East are from one source or one family – Judaism, Christianity and Islam among them come from various cousins to each other. They can all be called cults devoted to one single person.
Sanatan is the only Dharma across the world; its is about duties as against the religions that are about rights. And that is the primary difference between Sanatan and the religions – i.e., duties vs rights.
These ten avatars are: Matsya (Fish), Kurma (Tortoise), Varaha (Boar), Narasimha (Man-Lion), Vamana (Dwarf), Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki. They are believed to have descended on earth to restore cosmic order and protect the righteous.
