The King Who Dressed Up as God

Long before deepfakes, a king tried to deepfake God himself.

Paundraka, king of Pundra and Karusha, believed his flatterers who called him Bhagavan. As told in Bhagavata Purana 10.66, he took the title Vasudeva, wore yellow silk, carried a wooden chakra, fake conch and gada, and raised a Garuda flag. He then ordered Krishna of Dwarka to surrender his symbols.

Krishna met him near Kashi and ended the illusion with the real Sudarshana. The copy did not survive contact with the original.

Vesha vs Tattva

The difference was never the costume. It was appearance versus essence.

Krishna never needed to announce himself. His divinity showed in leela, in the fearlessness he gave others, in wisdom that held steady on a battlefield. He could be doubted and still remain what he was.

Paundraka needed daily performance. The dress, the titles, the threats. Remove the stage for a day and the godhood vanished.

Simple test for today:

1.Real power is effortless, it remains even when insulted
False power is expensive, it needs new claims every week

2.Krishna used symbols to protect dharma
Paundraka used dharma’s symbols to protect his ego

The Modern Paundraka

We meet him today whenever someone wants the aura without the sadhana. The instant guru with borrowed wisdom, the leader who wraps ambition in dharma talk, the influencer who demands devotion but fears questions.

The old test still works. Does it make you fearless or dependent? Does it stay calm when questioned or turn aggressive? Krishna liberates. Paundraka binds.

In Shree Vidya we say Devi herself protects the vidya from apatra, the unworthy imitator. Views can be bought, transmission cannot.

Why Lies Fall Even in Kali Yuga

Kali Yuga gives lies a bigger stage, not stronger roots. Packaging spreads fast, but exposure spreads faster.

1.A lie needs fuel. Paundraka had to dress up and threaten daily. Truth simply is.

2.The copy proves the original. By imitating chakra and pitambara, he taught people what real signs look like.

3. Arrogance invites correction. His challenge brought Krishna to his door. Loud adharma creates its own end, as Gita 4.7-8 says.

4.”Shakti cannot be copied. You can carve a wooden chakra, not the consciousness that guides it”

Our texts are optimistic for a reason. What grows from ahamkara grows like monsoon grass, fast and rootless. The first storm takes it.

Paundraka grew fast. He fell in one afternoon.

Look past vesha, watch for tattva. The real does not need your belief to stay real. The fake needs it to survive one more day.
