He Must Return, She May Choose: On Vishnu and His Shakti

Vishnu has to reincarnate, but his Shakti keeps taking different forms. It sounds simple. It holds the whole Shakta secret.

He has to. Avatara means descent. To preserve dharma he agrees to a womb, to forgetting, to limits of time, body and maryada. Rama cannot know all or he cannot suffer as a son should. Krishna cannot escape the arrow or he cannot teach that even leela ends.

She does not have to. She chooses the form that makes his work possible, and no two yugas are the same.

As Varaha she was Bhudevi, earth agreeing to be lifted. As Rama she was Sita, endurance showing what maryada costs through separation and fire. As Krishna she was Rukmini as devotion, Satyabhama as courage, Radha as pure longing. As Parashurama she was absent, for the axe only needed to cut.

Same Mahalakshmi. Different medicine.

In Shree Vidya there is only Lalita. She divides for play into preserver and power to preserve, Vishnu-rupini and Shakti-rupini.

The Todala Tantra, Mundamala and Shakti Sangam map ten Mahavidyas to ten avatars: Tara to Matsya, Bagala to Kurma, Dhumavati to Varaha, Chinnamasta to Narasimha, Bhuvaneshvari to Vamana, Matangi to Rama, Tripura to Parashurama, Bhairavi to Balarama, Mahalakshmi to Buddha, and Durga to Kalki.

Kalki cannot use Sita’s patience. Kali Yuga must be stopped then devoured, so she comes as Durga on his right to rebuild order and Kali on his left to swallow time.

Final turn: He is Ma Durga as Adi Parashakti himself. In Satya Yuga she comes as Sundari, in Kali Yuga as a warrior on a white horse. Not beside him, but as his own two breaths.

He changes body to keep his vow. She changes form knowing what his vow will cost.
