Why are people becoming so obsessed with mantras?

This mantra, that mantra, one new chant today, another new prayog tomorrow – too many experiments, too much restlessness, and very little inner stillness.

Many people have started believing that chanting many mantras will automatically make them powerful. They collect mantras like achievements. They proudly say, “I know this mantra, I have done that sadhana, I have tried everything.”

But spirituality is not a race of collecting mantras. It is a journey of becoming pure enough to hold one truth deeply.

A mantra is not meant to inflate the ego. It is meant to dissolve it. A mantra is not meant to make a person feel superior. It is meant to bring the mind into balance, discipline, devotion, and inner purification.

The real purpose of mantra is chitta Shuddhi / purification of the mind.

But many people remain stuck in ego, ignorance, comparison, and spiritual greed. Instead of becoming more humble, they become more restless. Instead of becoming more focused, they keep jumping from one practice to another.

This is why, in earlier times, sacred knowledge was not casually given to everyone. Brahma Gyan, mantra vidya, tantra, and deeper forms of sadhana were revealed only to those who had eligibility, discipline, devotion, and mental stability.

Not because the gurus wanted to hide knowledge. Because they understood that powerful knowledge in an unstable mind can create confusion.

Mantra is for mental balance, not mental disturbance

Mantras were originally meant to bring stability to the mind. The repeated sound, vibration, bhava, and discipline of mantra japa gradually purify the inner world. They align thought, breath, emotion, and consciousness.

But today, many people are losing mental balance in the name of mantra practice. There is no focus. No patience. No surrender. No proper guidance. One day they chant a Devi mantra, the next day a Bhairav mantra, then a Hanuman mantra, then a Mahavidya mantra, then some random beej mantra found online.

And when the mind becomes restless, when the energy feels blocked, when sleep is disturbed, when emotions become unstable, they wonder why the mantra is not working.

The problem is not always the mantra. Sometimes the problem is the way the mantra is approached. Mantra is not entertainment. It is not experimentation. It is not a shortcut to power. It is a sacred relationship with a divine frequency.

Why mantra deeksha is important

Earlier, a guru would observe the disciple, understand the disciple’s nature, karma, mental condition, spiritual capacity, and life situation. Then, the guru would give one mantra that suited the disciple’s consciousness.

One mantra. Not ten. Not twenty. Not a random list copied from the internet.

The disciple would then remain loyal to that mantra with shraddha, discipline, and repetition. Over time, that mantra would open layers of consciousness, purify the mind, and connect the disciple to the deity, tattva, or divine wisdom behind the mantra.

Today, people are deeply confused. They believe they can conquer the world with many mantras. They switch mantras. They switch gurus. They collect half-knowledge from videos, social media, and online forums. Then they start chanting without understanding pronunciation, nyasa, sankalpa, restrictions, energy, adhikara, or consequences.

This is not sadhana. This is spiritual impatience.

Mantras are not mere wish-fulfilment tools

Many people approach mantras only for wish fulfilment. They want money, power, attraction, victory, revenge, name, fame, control, or quick relief. But mantras do not work like vending machines. You do not insert japa and receive results instantly.

A mantra can help in the process of transformation. It can strengthen the mind, purify intention, align energy, and attract divine grace. But your inner transformation must also happen.

You still have to do your karma. Your duty, work, family responsibilities, discipline, honesty, effort, and moral choices are also part of the cosmic order. You cannot escape karma by chanting mantras. In fact, true mantra sadhana makes you more responsible, not less responsible.

Your work is also Ishwara’s work when it is performed with dharma. Your responsibilities are also part of your spiritual path. A person who chants mantras but avoids karma has not understood mantra.

Not every mantra suits every person

The expansion of consciousness depends on one’s mental ability, purity, discipline, and readiness. A person does not become intelligent, powerful, or spiritually evolved overnight by chanting multiple mantras.

Every mantra has its own energy. Some mantras are cooling. Some are fiery. Some are protective. Some are transformational. Some are devotional. Some are deeply tantric. Some require purity of lifestyle, guidance, restriction, and preparation.

A mantra that suits one person may not suit another. Every person’s karma, psychology, energy body, family background, emotional condition, and spiritual stage are different. This is why a mantra should not be selected casually. In many cases, the mantra must choose you through grace, guru, inner calling, or proper guidance.

When people chant without understanding this, they may feel restlessness, heaviness, blocked energy, disturbed sleep, irritation, ego inflation, or emotional imbalance. Many seekers complain that even after doing so many mantras, they feel stuck.

The question is: did they do mantra sadhana, or did they only experiment with sound?

One mantra can become a Brahmastra

It is said that even one mantra, when practiced with full faith, focus, discipline, and repeated Purushcharan / Purascharana, can become like a Brahmastra.

The power is not in the number of mantras collected. The power is in the depth of your connection.

A single mantra done properly can purify the mind, protect the seeker, awaken devotion, strengthen consciousness, and open the path to higher wisdom. But for that, the seeker must become steady.

A shallow person wants many mantras. A sincere sadhak goes deep into one.

The seed must be planted in one place for the tree to grow. If you keep digging it out and planting it somewhere else every few days, it will never become a tree.

In the same way, if you keep switching mantras, switching gurus, and switching paths, your consciousness does not deepen. It only becomes scattered.

The problem of Kalyug: Scattered consciousness

In Kalyug, the collective power of consciousness is already weakened. Faith has become unstable. Attention has become weak. People want quick results. They want divine power without discipline, blessings without surrender, and siddhi without purification.

The joint manifestation of consciousness is fading because people are not stable. They are busy comparing paths, collecting initiations, trying different gurus, and using spiritual practices for ego satisfaction.

The internet has made knowledge accessible, but it has also made confusion very easy.

Not everything available online is meant for practice. Not every mantra should be chanted without guidance. Not every deity sadhana is suitable for every person. Not every spiritual experience is progress.

Sometimes what people call awakening is only mental agitation. Sometimes what they call energy movement is only imbalance. Sometimes what they call divine calling is only spiritual greed.

That is why reliable guidance is important.

Believe in a reliable source

A mantra is sacred. Your mind is sacred. Your consciousness is sacred.

Do not experiment carelessly with your brain, nervous system, emotions, and subtle energy. Believe in a reliable source. Learn from a genuine guru, a trusted tradition, or a knowledgeable practitioner who understands both scripture and sadhana.

Do not treat mantra as a spiritual shortcut, Treat it as a lifelong discipline.
Do not chant to become powerful, Chant to become pure.
Do not chant to conquer the world, Chant to conquer your own ego.
Do not collect mantras, Become worthy of one.

Because when one mantra truly enters the heart, it does not merely fulfil desires. It transforms the seeker. And that transformation is the real power of mantra.

The devil know your weakness is love

When devil doesn’t want god to win and doesn’t know how to break your power, he sends you people who break you emotionally. He knows your greatest weakness is ” love” because you are an emotional being- full of humility. So he wants you to self-sabotage yourself by lowering your frequency- forcing you to think of all that you never got.

Maximum people are suffering “from not being able to love” and “I never got love”…and then slowly people are turning their back towards dharma- in rage, in vengeance -blaming the world for its cruelty, biasedness, unjustness.

The vindictiveness of humans will grow with time, because the only way adharma can win is by deleting “love” from earth. Devil hits on your weakness- “your ability to love” so that you stop believing in god completely, he takes away all those who you loved- through cheat and toxicity, and here you start blaming god. The devil takes you away from dharma, makes you a non-believer because adharma is easier for a revengeful, heartbroken soul. He blames it all on god but no its the devil who doesn’t want you to rise, doesn’t want you to heal your heart. He breaks your biggest strength to feel the emotions , then takes away your peace , breaks your will power, determination, confidence and dismantles you completely…

This war of devil and god is only so that you are not able to raise your consciousness to reach your highest potential. Because if you do, it shall end the devil at play. A healing heart will see through the motives of the devil and an unhealed heart will become the devil.

Shukra(as a microorganism) stayed within Shiva(the entire cosmos) learning and dissolving. When prakriti had to procreate, shiva released him through his semen. Shukracharya took a rebirth as Shiva’s beej. This was Shiva’s own transmission through Shukracharya. Shukracharya recieved the greatest gift of all- the sanjeevani Vidya- the ability to revive the dead. So Shukracharya guru of Shukra(Venus in astrolology) is highly knowledegeable. In kalyug , Shukracharya is the only guru that helps in taming daityas within ourselves. Would you prefer to die like radha in Krishnas arms

What sort of death would you prefer? Radha who died in the arms of Shree Krishna?

Here Krishna is her Krishna not bhagwan Krishna. She loved him as an unmanifested imperfect bhagwan in his raw form. She didn’t know the leeladhar would one day orchester war and be the charioteer to the strongest yodha. She knew Krishna is dharma without knowing it. Thats love of Radha Rani, for her everything was Krishna, an all pervading energy that pierced through her heart and stayed there.

Krishna died later, he had to follow his Dharma. Even gods are not saved from kaala. They come to perform their duties in maya without getting effected by it. But he was cursed in his previous birth. On an earthly realm he was killed by Jara- the hunter, and Dwarka got submerged in deep waters.

What we build at times is just the reflection of our desires and when we let go of that desire, the same desire can become history. They say Radha was sent to hell, for loving Krishna so much and not following her maratial dharma. But she died in the arms of Krishna.

Krishna who built an empire was killed not in a battlefield but by a hunter. His wives either had to commit Sati, some retired to the forest and others were captured by Robbers during travel.

Who actually went through hell? Lord Vishnu goes through earthly reincarnations again and again due to the curses of Sage Bhrigu, Narada and Jalandhar’s wife Vrinda.

Sometimes curses are important, to establish something bigger. Because Lord Vishnu’s lordship and his rebirths is important for mankind every time to recreate balance.

While Radha remained the aradhana shakti(Haldini) of Krishna as Prakriti, Krishna shall take a rebirth again to walk through hell . Radha will be foreever named before Krishna …but Krishna will suffer in his earthly reincarnations everytime he is born to understand pain and sufferings a little better. He shall continue to meet his Radha with every ascesion of a shakti calling his name in pure Madhurya bhakti, and then dying in his arms in absolute bliss. Can death be more peaceful than this?

How Saturn removes your ego

Why does Saturn removes ego? Do you remember the story of Jalandhar?

Shiva’s own power turned against him. Born from Shiva’s third eye- pure Vidya and detachment, a spark of anger hit the salty water of an ocean(emotion) and Jalandhar was born.

Shiva holds the crescent moon on his head, he balances emotions and mind perfectly and even though Jalandhar was divinely born from Shiva’s energy, fuelled by Vrinda’s shakti of love and purity, he craved for power and dominance.

It was Vrinda’s power of devotion towards the ultimate Guru(Vishnu) and loyalty towards her husband, that stopped Saturn to do its task, bhakti’s shakti is purely Mars(purity from Shiva, and humbleness from grounding) just like Hanuman ji. And Shani stops when pure bhakti rises.

Jalandhar, forgot his origin, he forgot where he came from and in ego he wanted to take Shiva’s place- shiv who is pure and ultimate. Jalandhar thought through his powers he was equal to the divine. He even misused his Tapasya and claimed Parvathi.

Shiva shattered the illusion(Shani as practical guru), by taking help of the ultimate Guru- Lord Vishnu(knowledge)
Shakti(mind- moon) took her power back and Vrinda was freed (Amrit).

Jalandhar collapsed consumed by the same fire that birthed him and then his purification began. Saturn comes when even divine energy without dharma and without remembrance becomes destructive. This is how Saturn is said to be unbiased and non dual.

Panchmukhi Hanuman in tantra

Hanuman (East-Facing/Tatpurusha Shiva): The central face represents pure devotion, courage, and unwavering loyalty to Lord Rama. This is pure energy/shakti of auspuciousness- the breathe of life

Narasimha (South-Facing/aghora Shiva): The lion face signifies protection from negative energies. This is transfornative energy to defeat enemies, just how Narsimha took form to defeat Hiranyakashpu.

Garuda (West-Facing/Sadyojata): The eagle face represents swift action and provides protection from poisons, negative spells, and removal of toxins. A devta of Kalyug and protection of Shree Vidya. He would help Lord Vishnu to recreate what is lost and create ground of reality.

Varaha (North-Facing/Vamadeva): The boar face grants stability, wealth, prosperity, & the power to conquer obstacles. He goes inside the deep waters to save Bhudevi. Deep waters are emotions & the attached demonic attachments/patterns. So Varaha helps in preservation, healing & the flow of life

Krittibas Ramayana—Hanuman assumed this virat (gigantic) form to defeat the demon Ahiravana in the netherworld. The myth states that the demon could only be destroyed if five specific oil lamps were blown out simultaneously.The multi-directional faces allowed Hanuman to extinguish all five lamps at once, rescuing Rama and Lakshmana..

My observation: Hanumanji is the only god who absorbs energies from cosmos and transmits to his solar plexus directly. Since he already is the son of Adishakti, .Shree Ram is “Brahman”/cosmic energy- Surya comes directly to him. Rest all our dieties , work in combination of shiv and shakti and kundalini awakening. Hanumanji’s transmutation of energies was direct, hence he had so much strength.

This is also a method of energy from cosmos that can be directly transferred to muladhar to give more power to “awakening”, rather than Kundalini awakening that goes from Muladhar to Sahasrar. In Hanumanji’s case it was Sahasrar to Muladhar. I could never consider him as a masculine energy, for me he is shakti- pure form of devotion, purity and innocence that only a feminine energy can have- the selfless, unconditional love for Shree Ram.
